Valley Eyewear lets you choose your own lenses, even if you have a custom prescription. All of our lenses offer 100% protection from UV rays and are scratch and fingerprint-resistant. We offer blue light blocking lenses as a standard inclusion for our non-prescription glasses. If you're buying sunglasses, you can also opt to receive polarised lenses. These lenses will reduce glare and offer you clearer vision in sunny situations.
A certain amount of natural blue light is beneficial to us, as it tells us when to rise and shine, but we are exposed to a lot of artificial blue light every day. Devices such as smartphones, TV, and computer screens produce this artificial blue light, and overexposure to this can interfere with our natural circadian rhythms. This is why blue-light blocking lenses are becoming more popular, alongside the rise of these kinds of technology.
Valley Eyewear's standard lenses protect your eyes from UV light, which is harmful to crucial parts of your eye, such as the cornea and retina. The Visible Light Transmission (VLT) of sunglasses is measured in categories, with the lower numbers representing lighter lenses. You can find the lens category for your selected frames on their product page.
• Category 0 (CAT0) refers to safety glasses that offer impact protection only. They have a mild tint or are completely transparent. Blue-light blocking lenses are included in this category.
• Category 1 (CAT1) glasses are good for overcast light, but not good in bright light.
• Category 2 (CAT2) glasses are suitable for use in moderately bright light and offer decent glare protection.
• Category 3 (CAT3) sunglasses are the most common category and are very effective at blocking out visible light.
• Category 4 (CAT4) sunglasses are brown or grey and minimise glare. They should be avoided when driving.
It is worth noting that all Valley lenses, regardless of category, block 100% of UVA and UVB light.
The base curve of a pair of glasses refers to the curvature of the glasses’ lens. There are three criteria to consider when choosing your lens’ base curve: aesthetics, fit, and optics. You need all three of these points to have a good pair of glasses. Select a lens curve that meets all three criteria.
Frame manufacturers, such as Valley, measure lens curves by deviation from the 'base curve'. Figuring out your base curve is the job of your optician. Once you know your base curve, Valley Eyewear can help you find a happy medium between what will provide you with optimum optics, aesthetics, and fit.
All of our non-prescription eyewear, from classic sunglasses to blue-light blocking classes, have their base curve defined by their style. This will be shown on the eyewear’s product page. The base curve of any prescription lenses, be they sunglasses or glasses, depend on the power of your prescription as well as the style that you are opting for.
